Research

Our areas of expertise

We design and synthesize nanomaterials having appropriate microstructure and properties such as nanoparticles, nanotubes, nanowires, graphene and many other low-dimensional species.

Our group specializes in nanomaterials purification, sorting and grafting with functional groups. We also make high-performance nanomaterials composites based on polymer and metal matrices.

We developed techniques to make functional coatings or macroscopic ensembles such as films or fibers from nanomaterials. These 3D structures pave the way towards real-life scale applications.

Excellent electrical properties of various nanomaterials enable us to utilize them in novel systems of power and data transmission such as highly-conductive light-weight wires with negligible losses.

Unique structure provides a range of interesting properties leading to possible applications in the area of heat dissipation, resistive heating or recovery of waste heat in the form of electrical energy.

We tailor materials at the nanoscale to use them as a catalyst support or the catalyst itself to improve a wide range of chemical transformations to reach higher yield under milder conditions.

Nanohybr1Ds: Hybrids composed of carbon nanotubes and metallic nanowires for harvesting energy from waste heat
2018 - date

This project (Grant agreement 0001/L-8/2016) has received €280,000 contribution from the National Centre for Research and Development, Poland under the Leader program.

The aim of work is to create hybrids of nanocarbon and nanowires to convert waste heat into electricity.

Dr Dawid Janas is the Principal Investigator of this operation.

SYNERGY: Strengthening scientific potential by establishing keY international partNERships with leadinG universities to reach the level of high competencY and research excellence
2018 - date

This project has received €461,000 contribution from the National Agency for Academic Exchange, Poland under the Academic International Partnerships program.

The aim of initiative is to establish key international partnerships and carry out frontier research with selected universities all around the world.

Dr Dawid Janas is the Project Coordinator.

Leaders of tomorrow: Development of the most talented student of the Faculty of Chemistry (Silesian University of Technology) by participation in the most prestigious international conferences
2018 - date

This project has received funding (€11,500) from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Poland under the Best of the Best 3.0 program.

The goal is to foster scientific development of the most talented students to enable them to present the results of their work at high-impact international conferences.

Dr Dawid Janas is the Principal Investigator of this operation.

Fundamentals of electrical properties of chirality-defined carbon nanotube macroassemblies
2016 - 2018

This project (Grant agreements 665778 and UMO-2015/19/P/ST5/03799) started on the 1st October 2016 and finished on the 30th September 2018. It received €193,000 contribution from the National Science Centre, Poland and the European Union’s Marie Sklodowska-Curie grant framework

The aim of the project was to create novel carbon-based nanomaterials of highly-defined structure and gain much deeper understanding of their electrical properties.
